It was in 2003 that Matt Stritzinger opened Adventure Zone in Coldwater, Michigan. Adventure Zone is a family entertainment center (FEC) with a variety of attractions including go-karts, mini golf, arcade, and of course…laser tag!
A Toxic Waste Warehouse Was Born
Matt says he was inspired to open a FEC because he, “wanted to bring something fun for families and kids to my community.” Until 2013, Adventure Zone was a seasonal FEC, only open during the warmer months and closed during the harsh Michigan Winters.
In 2013, Matt made the decision to take Adventure Zone from a seasonal center to a year-round operation and with that, he also added his laser tag attraction. Being a developer, Matt built the laser tag arena and did the theming himself with the help of friends and family. The theme they chose for their two-floor arena was Toxic Waste Warehouse.
Time For An Upgrade
Once the attraction was ready to go, Matt purchased a FunBlast system from LaserBlast to get his attraction up and running. He utilized this system for 10 years before eventually upgrading to CyberBlast Pro for the enhanced features. “We knew the CyberBlast Pro would give us a lot more features, a lot more things that we could do with it, even in our arena. The vests are lighter. They are definitely a great upgrade for us.”, explained Matt.
New Enhancements = Happy Customers
With the upgrade, he also added additional interactive options to his arena, such as the AI Projector target. The arena enhancements had a profound impact on their guests, according to Matt. “Initially, when customers that have been out here before came out and played in the new arena – and it’s not even a new arena, it’s the same layout – they thought we had re-themed or redone the whole arena. So, it’s that much of an impact.”, he stated.
CyberBlast Success
So far, CyberBlast Pro has been a big success for this FEC. Matt shares, “[Since] 2013 when we added laser tag, it has grown into probably our #2 revenue generator here at our FEC. So, our #1 being the arcade and then right behind that being laser tag.”
If you are ever near Coldwater, Michigan, I highly recommend stopping by Adventure Zone to check out their facility and have some fun. You are sure to have a blast!
