Survive the Zombie Apocalypse with CyberBlast | Behind the Scenes of Guts & Glory

Our CyberBlast system went from the laser tag arena to a zombie apocalypse survival with a new look and some creative gameplay for the production of the Shudder original series, Guts & Glory. Greg Nicotero, director and special effects makeup artist from the hit series The Walking Dead, brought a new type of survival game show to life.

Contestants competed in a variety of spooky trials, ending with a zombie shootout using no other than our CyberBlast Fright system! Let’s take a closer look behind the scenes at the equipment and see the role that laser tag played in this production.

The Vest

As viewers watched the show, they saw scary zombies swarming the contestants. What they did not see was a modified version of our CyberBlast Pro vest hiding beneath each zombie’s costume, allowing shots to register when they were tagged.

Clothing holes help sensors to remain visible.
Sensors remain discrete under zombie clothing.

With strategically placed holes and tears on clothing, our sensors can be tagged without it being apparent that a zombie is wearing a laser tag vest. Our zombie vest is a modified version of our CyberBlast Pro vest that does not include an attached phaser.

Vests still illicit haptic feedback for the zombie, so they can feel a vibration when they are tagged, so they can act accordingly. Additionally, the zombie vest is built with a button that the zombie can discreetly press to “infect” players that get too close and shut them down.

The Phaser

The Guts & Glory creative team made some unique modifications to our CyberBlast phaser to give it the appearance of a more tactical weapon.

Our picatinny rail allows attachments to be added to the phaser, creating a more tactical look.
Contestants on Guts & Glory tagged zombies with CyberBlast phasers.

A 3D printed cover was able to attach to the phaser via our Picatinny rail, which comes pre-built into the design of all our CyberBlast model phaser cases. Our Picatinny rail allows you to attach tactical items such as flashlights, scopes, or even more detailed pieces like those on Guts & Glory, allowing you to modify the look of the phaser without inhibiting any functionality.

A Perfect Fit for Other Spooky Attractions

Our CyberBlast Fright system is ideal for Zombie Tag and other attractions such as escape rooms, interactive haunted houses, scary hayrides, mazes, and more. Be sure to check out the finale episode of Guts & Glory on Shudder to get a closer look at our CyberBlast Fright system in action.
