The Lost City, in Holland, MI, is a curiously themed fun center with a variety of attractions including mini golf, an arcade, mini bowling, and of course…laser tag! We spoke with Ryan Brunette, General Manager, to learn more about this unique FEC and their experience with LaserBlast.

5,000 Square Feet of Awesomeness

In 2020, The Lost City was purchased from the original owners by the current owners. The original theming was based on the 1994 movie Stargate, which combined both Egyptian Desert and Outer Space theme elements. The front of the building is even shaped to resemble a pyramid, giving the entrance way a cool and fun look.

The laser tag arena is the star attraction at The Lost City. The 5,000 square foot, multi-level arena creates a dynamic environment, perfect for epic gameplay. A little over a year ago, they decided to take their attraction up a notch with an upgrade to CyberBlast Pro. “We upgraded to the CyberBlast Pro system about a year ago and we’ve had nothing but a good experience with it so far.”, explains Ryan.

Impressive for Players, Simple for Staff

For their upgrade, The Lost City added 32 CyberBlast Pro vests with wireless chargers. These have been a big improvement for both players and staff at The Lost City. The built-in selfie cameras have been especially successful with their guests. “I like several things about [CyberBlast Pro] – the selfie cameras are a huge hit.”, Ryan describes. “The being able to see your face on the scoreboard after the fact is a crowd pleaser, absolutely.”

In addition to players, The Lost City staff has also appreciated the upgrade and how it is has helped to streamlined their laser tag operations. Ryan reported, “Switching from our old system where we used to have to plug in every vest at the end of the evening, the new wireless charging system from LaserBlast has really made that so much simpler and it has made our end of day process that much simpler.”

End of days processes were not the only thing that became easier once CyberBlast Pro came into the picture. The ease of the software and single button push game starting has made an impact on their business as well. Ryan conveyed, “The one button push-to-start option makes it very simple, especially during peak times in order to handle the crowds and keep it simple for our arena marshals.” The also added Smart Mission Briefing which allows them to make the most of the 30+ game formats they have available, without adding any extra time or headache

Interactive & Immersive

In addition to their vests, we were able to help The Lost City add various interactive arena options that really helped to bring their arena to life. Ryan told us that, “The Elements, AI Targets, Cybergate – those are some of my favorite new features that we’ve added from the LaserBlast system. They all seem to add their own level of complexity and fun to the game itself”.

They also added in some stunning DMX effects, including fog jets over their bases that trigger when a base is shut down to simulate an explosion. Interactive aspects like this really bring the arena to life for players and add a lot more depth for the game. They can also help a laser tag arena to stand out from the competition and keep players coming back for more.

Why LaserBlast?

We had initially met Ryan and The Lost City owners at the IAAPA Expo. When we asked Ryan why they chose LaserBlast for their equipment upgrade, he answered, “LaserBlast offers high quality engineering, a durable product with fast support, and no licensing fees. Ultimately, it was kind of a no brainer from there”.

“On top of that, the quality of the engineering and the product itself is top notch. It’s been very reliable and it’s one of my favorite things about the system,” Ryan elaborated. He also explains how he was drawn to LaserBlast because of our origins of being a family-owned business that shows a great deal of care and appreciation to our customers.

CyberBlast Pro has been a great addition to both guests and staff at The Lost City. Ryan states, “One of my favorite parts about the new CyberBlast system is the fact that its not only improved our customer experience in our laser tag arena, but also made it easier on our arena marshals and other employees from a simplicity standpoint.” We have loved working with The Lost City and it is always an exciting opportunity for us when we are able to work on a project in our home state.
